Structured recovery, built around your surgeon's protocol
Post-operative rehabilitation follows a staged program developed in coordination with your surgical team — protecting healing tissue in the early weeks, then progressively rebuilding strength, movement and confidence through to full recovery.

Structured rehab for surgeries we commonly support
Every surgery comes with its own healing timeline and precautions. Your program is built around your surgeon's specific rehabilitation protocol, not a generic exercise sheet — so tissue heals safely while function is restored as quickly as it safely can be.
What happens in your session
Assessment & Protocol Review
We review your surgeon's rehabilitation protocol and discharge summary, then assess your current movement, swelling and stage of healing.
Early-Stage Mobilisation
Gentle, protocol-guided movement to protect healing tissue while restoring range and preventing stiffness.
Progressive Loading
Strength and load are rebuilt in structured stages, advancing only once each recovery milestone is safely met.
Functional Rehabilitation
Exercises shift toward the movements you need day to day — walking, stairs, lifting and everyday confidence.
Return-to-Activity Planning
A clear, criteria-based plan for returning to work, daily activity or sport, coordinated with your surgeon where needed.

Post-operative rehabilitation FAQs
When should I start physio after surgery?
In many cases, rehabilitation begins within the first one to two weeks after surgery, guided by your surgeon's specific protocol — sometimes earlier for gentle mobilisation, sometimes later depending on the procedure. We'll confirm timing against your discharge instructions at your first visit.
Do you follow my surgeon's specific rehabilitation protocol?
Yes. We request and review your surgeon's rehabilitation protocol and discharge summary before treatment begins, so every stage of your program aligns with their clinical plan and any precautions or restrictions they've set.
How long does post-operative rehab usually take?
This varies significantly by procedure — a straightforward arthroscopic repair may need 6–8 weeks of structured rehab, while an ACL reconstruction or joint replacement can involve a staged program over 6–12 months. We'll give you a realistic timeframe once we know your surgery and protocol.
Is post-operative physiotherapy covered by my health fund or Medicare?
Most private health funds cover physiotherapy as an extras service, and we offer on-the-spot HICAPS claiming. If your surgery relates to a work injury or motor vehicle accident, it may be covered under Workers Compensation or CTP; a GP Chronic Disease Management plan may also provide Medicare-subsidised sessions in eligible cases.
Do I need a referral from my surgeon or GP?
A referral isn't required to book a post-operative physiotherapy appointment with us. That said, we do ask for your surgeon's rehabilitation protocol or discharge summary where available, so we can align treatment with their plan from day one.
